Another Full Tilt Online Poker Series is at an end, with FTOPS XIV finishing up yesterday, Sunday, November 15, crowning a new FTOPS Main Event Champion in zhivago2, winner of the largest share of the $2.5 million prize pool. The other top winner at this running of the now coveted semi-annual event is obiedman who won the $2500 2-day event, that finished up on Saturday, November 14, just one day before, and which boasted a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million.

The series kicked off, as it’s been doing lately, with one of the $1 million guaranteed events, this being the $216 6-max event which was held on Day 1 of FTOPS XIV, Wednesday November 4, and which was won by a player going by the username of s00tedj0kers89 (suited jokers – get it?).

Next up is the Mini-FTOPS XIV, coming up December 6 – 20 and boasting a total guaranteed prize pool of $4 million.

It’s almost time for the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event winner to be determined. ESPN has been running taped broadcasts of the main event leading up to the final table – exciting for sure, but we’ve already known the identity of the November Nine for several months now. What we want to see is them sit down at the felt and play it out. And that is coming up this coming Tuesday night, 9-11 pm ET.

To recap, those chosen few up for the $10 million grand prize and poker immortality are:

  • * Davin Moon
    * Steven Begleiter
    * Joe Cada
    * Eric Buchman
    * Antoine Saout
    * James Akenhead
    * Kevin Schaffel
    * Jeff Shulman
    * Phil Ivey

Jeff and Phil are the pros at the table, but amateur Davin has 1/3 of the chips at the table. If recent year’s Chris Moneymaker through Peter Eastgate are any indication, then it may go to the youth, like Eric, the online qualifiers, like Antoine, or both, like Joe.

This makes it a perfect time to add PKR to your list of preferred online poker rooms.

The big winner at PokerStars 2009 WCOOP this past weekend was a player that goes by the name of Sumpas, who took down the high-rollers event. No one knows Sumpas’ real name (at least not yet) but we do know that he hails from Linkoping, Sweden.

With Full Tilt Poker‘s new software upgrade roll out last week is a feature that’s been getting a lot of attention in online poker tournament circles lately, which makes it worthy of mention here. It goes by many names – a deal-making option or facility, and tournament chops being just a few – but it refers to the same general gist:

Players making it to the Final Table of any tournament can opt to express their interest in making a deal so as to avoid playing out the rest of the cards and risk losing everything. Once all the remaining players at the final table (whether it’s 9 or 2) have clicked the “Make a Deal” button to show their interest, the game is paused – at which point players have 20 minutes to agree on a deal, based on a selection of options, including: splitting the pot proportionately based on chip stacks, going by the so-called Independent Chip Model, or composing a Custom Deal that all remaining player agree upon.
